Harnessing Digitalisation For Electrical Contractors
Burning fossil fuels like oil or gas for heating is responsible for around a third of the UK’s emissions. UK Power Networks is determined to make it easy and simple for customers to switch to low carbon heating to support the UK’s net zero target.
UK Power Networks is an active enabler of low carbon technologies like electric vehicles, renewable energy, energy storage and low carbon heating. The team is working on projects to facilitate a low carbon system by improving network access and reducing time and cost to connect low carbon load and new sources of energy generation.
With a 10-fold increase in electric vehicles anticipated in the next few years, they are working with installers to assess, refer and approve applications for electric car chargers through their Smart Connect portal. This makes it faster and easier for contractors to advance their customers’ projects.
The consortium is developing technical and commercial solutions to save customer costs (estimated to £207m savings by 2030) and enable the faster transition to electric for commercial fleets and private hire vehicle operators.
